Are you easily fooled?

Does this look like a normal house to you?
Well, it's not - it's a false front for a booster pump
station located at 3215 Wade Avenue, Raleigh, NC.

Up close you can see that the windows aren't
real and there's a huge vent over the front door.

A view of the back of the 'house' . . . . .

. . .  and here's what's behind the facade:
The Raleigh City Administrators came up with this ingenious idea when they chose not to construct an unsightly industrial building in the neighborhood where the pump station is located.

Here are photos of utility stations that other cities have camouflaged:
Louisville, Kentucky

Manistique, Michigan

Oakland, California

What could have an eyesore in Virginia Beach,
Virginia, looks like a beautiful lakefront home:

This industrial-looking building:

is actually concealing a large utility complex in Nashville, TN:

More and more cities are making efforts to conceal ugly utility stations in their residents' neighborhoods.  Good job, City Administrators!

  1. I think that's a great idea. I wonder if I have ever seen any of these "fake" buildings and not known it.
